The Okanagan Military Museum
The Okanagan Military Museum was established in 1998 as a result of the inspiration and efforts of a number of veterans and retired Canadian Forces members working in conjunction with several founding organizations. The location of the Okanagan Military Museum in the Memorial Arena is especially significant as this building is Kelowna's "living memorial", dedicated to those who fought in the Second World War.
The Okanagan Military Museum is dedicated to the preservation and greater awareness of Okanagan military heritage. The Museum maintains the legacy of Okanagan Valley residents who have served in the Canadian armed forces and in the armed forces of ally nations. A visit to the Okanagan Military Museum ensures a greater understanding of and connection to our proud military heritage.
Come visit to see the Museum’s significant collection of small arms, uniforms, insignia, badges, and equipment, including artefacts from the Boer War, World War I and World War II, the Korean War, the Cold War, and contemporary military operations. The Okanagan Military Museum is also home to one of the best firearms collections in Canada, and its extensive Reference Library is open to researchers.
Every year, thousands of visitors enjoy the Okanagan Military Museum’s rotating special exhibitions and collections. These special exhibitions explore and interpret many areas of Okanagan military history and always ensure the visitor something new to see. The permanent exhibition spaces host engaging and informative installations and displays. Like the Okanagan Heritage Museum and BC Orchard Industry Museum, the Okanagan Military Museum offers specialized group programs and events, such as the Remembrance Day open house and the Canada Day book sale.
